Success of Malabar Beach water quality clean up based on hard headed negotiations by former Greens Mayor

A storm water pipe that has been diverted from discharging into Malabar Bay.

The success of the Malabar Beach storm water diversion project (see Southern Courier) was based on some hard headed negotiations in 2010 between former Greens Mayor Murray Matson and Maroubra MP Michael Daley to secure a fair funding deal for Randwick City Council ratepayers.

It is indeed wonderful that the water quality has now improved for swimmers but it must still be remembered that we have just diverted the pollutants further out to sea.
