Transport writer Jacob Saulwick for the Sydney Morning Herald has written an interesting article titled “Eastern suburbs light rail: Council struggles to save park and old trees“
Greens Councillors Lindsay Shurey and Murray Matson have initiated both of Randwick Council’s current campaigns to save trees at both High Cross Park and Centennial Park.
Sualwick’s article displays the intense internal debate the Councillors have had (and are still having) over the best tactics to minimize the tree losses from the light rail.
The Greens pushed for tree reduction and park specific clauses to be inserted into the development agreement offered to the Council for signing by Transport for New South Wales (TfNSW).
